FAQs

In removing stones from karat jewelry, do the stones get damaged?
Gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, and sapphires are safe. Whole emeralds and opals may get chipped. We do our utmost to insure that does not occur.

Why should steel components be removed from scrap lots?
Steel has a much higher melting point than gold or silver. This may diminish the lots homogeneity which is critical for analyzing the material.

What type of low-grade material can be processed?
Any burnables material from a jewelry manufacturing or bench area may contain precious metals embedded in the ‘dirt’. Polishing dust is usually rich in value.

What is the turnaround time for metallic and sweeps refining lots?
Karat melts are completed in normally 2-4 days. Sweeps lots take 3-6 weeks depending on the size and amount of work involved in processing.

How do I get paid from my precious metals contained in my refining lots?
We pay on the 2nd London Fix or spot pricing. Sales done on the fix must be known by 9:30 am the day of the sale for gold and by 3:30 pm the day before the sale for silver, platinum, and palladium. We pay by company check or wire transfer.
